Volunteer Opportunities
Friends of Morden Mine offer volunteers the chance to work with a society with a 2010 goal of completing the site survey now underway of Morden Colliery Historic Provincial Park and of the western section of Morden Colliery Regional Trail, as well as the start of major fundraising for Morden’s preservation.
Opportunities include:
- volunteering as a board member, coordinating work parties and special events, assisting in fundraising strategy and research
- compiling and maintaining a database of members willing to donate some time and skills to Morden’s preservation.
- selecting members willing to help with tasks when the need arises, scheduling time allotments, and arranging for instruction sessions.
- helping with promotional campaigns and special events by selling tickets, distributing posters or brochures, forwarding mail-outs, manning booths, selling FOMM cards and magnets or distributing to vendors.
- sending notices on a regular basis to regional media (newspapers, TV and radio) about meetings and special events
- taking photographs for Morden Mine News and website, contributing articles, sharing historical reminiscences
- clearing weeds and invasive plants around the Morden site and the adjacent portion of Morden Colliery Regional Trail
- helping with work parties designated to shore up some of the most shaky foundations of the existing Morden structure.
- other activities you might like to be involved in. Let us know.
If you can donate some of your time and skills to any of these activities, please leave a message with info@mordenmine.com or phone 250-755-3099.
